How to boot Windows XP in 16 seconds? Use Linux.
Just mucking around with some opensource virtualisation. Booting winxp pro under Ubuntu Linux 8.10 in Virtualbox on a Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz. Would probably go faster if the virtual machine image was on a ram drive as well as a bunch of other tweaks. But not too shabby.
Today I also plugged in my new Nokia E71 and Ubuntu 8.10 recognised it straight up and said “Do you want to configure your phone?” so I click yes then choose my network provider from the list “Three Australia” then I choose “Connect” and I’m online with my netbook in seconds. This is EXACTLY how technology should work. Under windows there was a LOT of stuffing around to get it to work. With Ubuntu, from plugging in my phone for the first time to being online at 3G speed was less that 30 seconds. Zero effort. Not to mention ALL my hardware worked out of the box. Impressive. Keep up the great work Ubuntu!
